History of 17th Mah Bn NCC and NCC Unite of Ahmednagar College, Ahmednagar:
The origin of 17Mah Bn NCC, Ahmednagar dates back to 29 Nov, 1955, when a pl, with one NCC officer and 64 cadets, was raised in the premises of Ahmednagar College, as a part of Bombay Bn NCC, Nasik. Subsequently, in Jan 1958, the strength was increased to one coy and transferred to 20 Bombay Bn NCC Aurangabad. In Dec 1959, the status of the unit was upgraded to Independent two coy Bn, designated as 17 Mah Bn NCC, under the command of Capt Narayan Rao, 22 MARATHA LI, as the first commanding officer.
During the re-org from 1963 to Jun 1970, Bn strength was increased to eight coys and nine troops. In the reaffiliation, which followed till 1977-78, i.e. till raising of 57 Mah Bn NCC, the strength was stabilized at four SD Coys and 12 JD Troops. In 1993, additional strength was allotted to raise subunits at two colleges and two schools. In 1997,half JD Troop was raised at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalya, Takli Dhokeshwar. Arts, Com, & Sci College, Ahmednagar was allotted 65 SW Cadets in Jun 2011, Bn strength now stands at 887 SD/SW and 1300 JD/JW Cadets.
